Religious Education

Aspire not to have more but to be more.
— Oscar Romero

At White Laith we celebrate diversity. We are committed to preparing the children to become citizens of the future who are tolerant of the multicultural world that we all live in today.

We offer RE lessons which contribute to the children’s overall personal and social development and recognise and provide opportunities to develop their spiritual nature. Children develop a knowledge and understanding of how beliefs and values of religions influence the lives of individuals, families, groups and communities. There is a balance between learning about Religions: facts and specific details, and learning from religion: their thought, perceptions and looking at the meaning of stories and events in history.

The teachers use the Leeds Agreed Syllabus to support the children’s learning.

Key stage 1 children focus on Christianity, Islam, Judaism and non-religious approaches

Key stage 2 children focus on Christianity, Hindu Dharma, Sikhism, Judaism, Islam Buddhism and other non-religious views such as Humanism.
