Bishop Young Music Academy
Nicola Sheerin
Ukulele, samba drums, keyboards and beat-boxing! Amazon had a brilliant day at Bishop Young Music Academy. We spent the day at the High School working with talented Academy and Leeds ArtForms staff to make music together.
It was the first time that many of us had had the opportunity to play these instruments and we really enjoyed it. We had to concentrate hard all day - making music isn't easy!
We all agreed that the Beat-Boxing was great fun but we really had to work hard to keep in time (and tune) during the 3-part Uptown Funk! The staff were really impressed with our rhythmic skills and our ability to keep in time - this shows the impact of our hard work during our drumming sessions last year!
If you want to more photos go to the Music Gallery.
Alfie: "I liked the ukulele best as it was tricky and real challenge."
Lewis: " I liked the drums because they were LOUD! I also enjoyed trying out all the different percussion instruments."
Mason: "I liked the rhythms we played on the drums."
Pratryush: "Keyboards were fun and I learnt a lot."
Aiden: "I liked the ukulele - It was really satisfying when you got it right."
Bailey: I enjoyed the ukulele - it hurts but it's fun."
Mr Alex will be coming into school to run 4 after-school samba drumming workshops and we'll go back to Bishop Young to perform alongside the 3 other schools who were also there. We'll be a band of 120 musicians!
