RNLI Assembly
Nicola Sheerin
Do you know how to keep safe near water? During our assembly we looked at the equipment the lifeguards use to help keep us safe when we are near and in the water.
Lifeguards wear yellow and red so that we can spot them easily when we are on the beach. We also looked at the different flags - we now know that it is safe to swim between the yellow and red flags. If you want to surf you have to surf between the black and white flags and NEVER go in the sea when the red danger flag is flying.
Top-tips:
1. Stay together
2. Stop and think
3. Float
4. If you need help call 999
We also learnt that if you fall into cold water or get into difficulties you should FLOAT - Face up, Lie back, Arms Out, Time. You should float for a minute first so that you control the shock and then you should raise your hand and call for help.
