Year 2 Programming
Michael Sheerin
In Year 2 we have come to the end of our programming topic. To show what they have learnt the children were set a challenge.
“Can you build a program to draw a letter?”
We began by creating a program to draw a letter ‘L’. We used ‘2go’ a Purple Mash programming tool. Next the children were challenged to work independently to build a program to draw a letter ‘T’. It needed some logical thinking, as well as a bit of trail and error to build a program to do this efficiently. There are a couple of turns to think about and we didn’t want to use any unnecessary instructions. Next the challenge was to draw a ‘P’, then a ‘M’ and some child even built a program to draw a letter' ‘G’. A selection of the programs created have been put on display in the IT-suite.
The class have achieved a lot in this topic. They know all about quarter, half and full turns clockwise and anti-clockwise. Something that is quiet important if you are to control a robot!
