Mississippi class have been baking this week. We created two different sponge cakes. One was a vanilla sponge with a jam filling and the other, a lemon sponge with a lemon curd filling. Choosing two different cakes showed us that the traditional sponge recipe could be adapted to change the taste, appearance and aroma of the cake. We began by going through how to prepare the cake hygienically. We then used a range of techniques to make the cake: slicing, grating, mixing, spreading and baking. After making the cake, we designed a taste test. We all got to try the cakes- they were delicious! We even made a gluten free cake which was tasty too.
