Great Yorkshire Show Vegetable Box Competition
Nicola Sheerin
Well - today was the day the judges arrived!
We have been working really hard since February to plan, prepare, sow and plant the vegetables for our competition box. We found out lots of information when researching for our Dig for Victory topic and we have put this learning to good use planting up a superb box of vegetables - all grown from seed!
We have also found a variety of delicious recipes which require our fruit and vegetables. We decorated plates with photographs of our chosen recipes and attached these to the box. We also love our knife, fork and spoon stakes which we hope will support our beans and peas.
As well as talking about our competition box we also showed John and Carol (the judges from the Yorkshire Agricultural Society) our Victory garden, Wildlife Garden, Sensory Path (well - the beginnings of it!) and our Bird Hide. They were really impressed.
We will have to wait and see whether our box will be selected for the final at the Great Yorkshire Show but even if it doesn’t get through we’ve really enjoyed the challenge and are looking forward to eating all the delicious vegetables when they are ready for harvesting!
