A bumper carrot harvest!
Nicola Sheerin
We had an exciting time clearing our raised bed!
This lunchtime we decided that it was time to clear one of the raised beds in the Victory Garden. We were amazed at the amount of carrots we had grown. We also found our spring onions, beetroot, onions, garlic and the most amazing shaped parsnips we’ve ever seen!
We also picked one of our sweetcorn cobs but discovered that they are not quite ripe - we’ll leave them for another week or so. Our pumpkins and marrows continue to grow and we’ll pick them in a few weeks time so that we can weigh, measure, carve and cook them…and of course eat them.
We also collected the seeds of our Nasturtiums and Calendula and will keep them dry in envelopes ready to plant next year. Some of us picked the climbing beans - they have grown too tough for us to eat now but we’ll pod them and plant the beans next year and hopefully they will grow.
We have taken all our produce to Adele in the kitchen and she will wash and prepare them to add to the salad bar tomorrow. We are all looking forward to trying the carrots!
