How to make a dry stone wall!
Nicola Sheerin
The Yorkshire Dales have come to White Laith!
Over the past 18 months we have spent a lot of time developing our school grounds and we now have our Victory Garden, Sensory Path, Wildlife Garden, Climbing Trees, Bird Hide and Orchard to explore. During the Spring and Summer months they looked amazing and provided us with lots of areas in which to play and explore.
In May (during Lockdown) we were thrilled that, as a result of a grant from Yorkshire Agriculture Society, we were able to bring the countryside to us in the form of a dry stone wall. The wall marks the end of our sensory path and soon we’ll be able to wriggle through or climb over it into our woodland area. The trees in the woodland area were planted in September 2019 - thanks to the Woodland Trust - so it may be a few years before we see them in their full glory!
If you have ever wanted to see how two wallers can turn 16 tonnes of stone into a work of art have a look at the photos below!
