Anglo-Saxon Day in Amazon
Andrea Adamson
Today, in Amazon, It was Anglo-Saxon day! We all came dressed as Anglo-Saxons and took part in some very Saxon activities throughout the day. To begin with, we found out all about Saxon food and farming and thought carefully about what had changed and what was the same today. We then foraged some apples, berries and honey to make some delicious codlings (stuffed apples!). We used our coring, mixing and measuring skills to make the delicious treats, which we kindheartedly shared with the Vikings next door. We enjoyed the feast peacefully with our neighbours (Mississippi Vikings) while a Skald (Viking storyteller) told us the tale of Loki and Boulder. After lunch, it was time for a historic battle. We linked our learning in class to piece together the battle of Winwaed (Whinmoor) where eventually King Penda was defeated and every king in the land became Christian. We had a wonderful day and look forward to keeping those ‘Vicious Vikings’ in check.
