Where am I? A tour of our school garden!
Nicola Sheerin
Although school is closed for most children some children are still coming to school when their key-worker parents are at work.
We have been busy every morning reading, practising our phonics and spelling, taking part in a very active PE session and completing lots of maths tasks. We start our afternoons listening to a story - and we have really enjoyed Fantastic Mr Fox, The Enormous Crocodile and Kensuke’s Kingdom. Then we have followed story time with art and craft activities and, because the weather has been so good, we have done LOTS of gardening!
The grounds are bursting with life and the blossom in our cherry trees looks fabulous. The seeds and potatoes that Amazon class planted in the Victory Garden in February are sprouting and we should have a great crop of beans, peas, beetroot, garlic, carrots, spinach, ginger, onions and potatoes when we all return to school.
Over the last two weeks we have planted up the strawberry bed, sown wild flowers in the wildflower meadow, planted courgettes in pots , planted lots of sunflowers and done lots of weeding! We have also carried lots of red gravel, blue slate and white cobbles to complete sections of the sensory path. We have carried heavy buckets and pushed heavy wheelbarrows - our arms and hands are getting much stronger and as strong arms and fingers are good for handwriting we are hoping out handwriting will improve too!
Look at the photos below and see if you can recognise where in the grounds the photos have been taken.
