We love Swing music but Elvis is the King of Rock 'n' Roll!
Nicola Sheerin
Over the past 4 weeks we have listened to Duke Ellington’s big band sound Swing, the new sound of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the virtuoso improvising within Bebop and the smooth sound of Cool Jazz.
We have listened carefully in order to distinguish between the sounds of different instruments or melodies, discussed our likes and dislikes and have learnt new musical vocabulary which we use when expressing our opinions. (Counterpoint being one of our new words)
We’ve listened to Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Elvis Presley and Miles Davis.
We also challenged our parents to name their favourite Elvis Presley song - there are 600 to choose from and all our parents could name at least one!
Ella’s grandad dusted off his record collection to play her some songs from his collection of original Elvis Presley records - they are 44 years old!
