National Railway Museum
Michael Sheerin
Year 2 visited the National Railway Museum in York to discover more about the history of trains.
We saw some famous trains including George Stephenson's Rocket, the Mallard and the Bullet. Some of the locomotive are enormous!
Did you know the Mallard was the fastest steam train ever?
We took part in a short work shop in which we dressed up as Victorian children and boarded a train headed for the seaside. Only rich people could afford to sit in First Class, we had to sat in Second Class!
There were lots and lots of different trains to explore, both old and new. The Rocket was the first steam train ever built. It was built in 1829 and won a competition to find the best locomotive engine for a railway line between Liverpool and Manchester.
Look at our slide show to see some of the other things we got up to at the museum.
