Mississippi's Thackray Medical Museum Visit
Poppy Brown
Today, Mississippi class went to Thackray Medical Museum to experience what it was like to live during the Victorian times. In teams, we found out (by looking at different evidence) about four Victorians: a servant, a night soil collector, a bookseller's daughter and a slaughterhouse boy. We then walked through the Victorian street and experienced the sights and sounds and.....disgusting smells of Victorian Leeds! In the afternoon, we found out what it was like to live in a workhouse. Did you know that Thackray Museum was a workhouse? We found out what a typical day was a like for a child living in the workhouse and got to do some of the tasks that they did such as making gruel and unraveling rope. We all said that we would have hated to live in a workhouse. It was a fantastic day and we highly recommend that, if you haven't been, you should go!
