Computing in Year 4 - Computational Thinking
Michael Sheerin
How would you tackle a problem/puzzle that at first looked way to hard? Well, maybe you would start by breaking it down into same pieces, look for patterns and compare it to what you already know.
This is what we are learning to do in Year 4 computing this term, “Computational Thinking”, the fundamentals of Computer Science.
The first step when faced with a difficult problem is to ‘decompose’ it. Break it down in to smaller problems. We are using Code Studio to practise doing this. Check it out at https://code.org/. Have a go yourself.
Over the coming weeks we will learn to solve problems by pattern matching, abstraction and creating algorithms, to improve our computational thinking. We what to be better problem solvers.
