The Great Big Dance Off
Nicola Sheerin
Dance club really enjoyed our day out in Halifax competing in the Great Big Dance Off.
We have worked really hard to perfect our routine and were thrilled to get through to Round 2 of the national competition. We arrived at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax in the morning and were able to rehearse - only once - on the stage. We were also able to watch some of the High School teams rehearsing and were really impressed with their dance moves, agility and creativity.
We then spent some time exploring the Piece Hall. We looked at the exhibits in the Welcome Centre which explained the history of the Piece Hall - exhibits included a weaving loom, an original metal yard stick and a blade used to chop off the heads of cloth thieves!
We also went into the gallery to look at the work of sculptor, David Murphy and explored the outside sculpture ‘The Blanket’.
Thank you to the staff in the Yorkshire Soap Company who helped us select gifts to take home to our parents!
Then back to the theatre for the competition. It was great fun getting ready back stage in our dressing room and even though we were nervous we danced really well.
Thank you Mrs Kewley - we had a great day!
